The Nordic Council of Ministers at CSW54

The Nordic Council of Ministers for Gender Equality present Nordic gender equality work since Beijing at the UN Commission on the Status of Women's 54th session in New York on Tuesday March 2 2010.

CSW54 marks the fifteenth anniversary of the UN's Fourth World Conference on Women, Beijing 1995, a conference that laid out a framework for achieving equality between women and men and has played a key role in global progress.

The Nordic Council of Ministers is hosting two side events during CSW54. On Tuesday March 2, the Nordic ministers will take part in a seminar on the theme: Political results and the challenges facing gender equality in the Nordic countries. On Friday March 5, a Nordic expert seminar will discuss the theme: Practical results and the challenges facing gender equality in the Nordic countries.

CSW is part of the UN Economic and Social Council. The annual session in New York brings together decision makers, civil servants, NGOs and representatives of other organisations from all over the world to evaluate progress and challenges and to formulate tangible policies and global standards to promote gender equality and the position of women.

Participation at CSW is part of the Nordic Region's policy of putting core Nordic values such as gender equality and human rights high on the international agenda.
