Nuclear Test in North Korea

The chair of the First Committee, ambassadør Mona Juul, held the following statement in her personal capacity at the opening of the meeting on Monday.
Distinguished delegates,
It appears that the Democratic Peoples’s Republic of Korea has conducted a nuclear test explosion.
Let there be no doubt about your chairperson’s view on this: The test explosion is deplorable, it is irresponsible and it is totally unacceptable. It threatens regional as well as global peace and security.
I trust that the Security Council will take the appropriate action.
And I call upon the DPRK to return to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty as a non-nuclear weapon state.
