The official Norwegian delegation to the CSW will be led by State Secretary for International Development, Ms. Ingrid Fiskaa. Other key Norwegian representatives are Director-General in the Ministry of Children, Equality and Social Inclusion, Ms. Arni Hole and Norway’s Ambassador for Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, Mr. Fredrik Arthur.
Some of the key events for Norway inside – and outside the UN include:
On Monday February 27th the Permanent Mission of Norway to the UN and the Norwegian Consulate General in New York has organised a debate called “Sex and the Office – gender equality at home and at work”. The event is in association with Center on American Progress. More info here.
On Tuesday February 28th State Secretary Fiskaa joins the Tunisian Minister for Women’s Affairs and parliamentarians from around the world to discuss "Opportunities and Challenges in Improving Rural Women’s Access to Clean Water and Sustainable Energy". More info here.
On Wednesday February 29th State Secretary Fiskaa is co-host of an event focusing on violence against lesbian and bisexual women. Read more here.
That same afternoon, Ms. Fiskaa will present Norway’s official statement during the General Debate of the Commission on the Status of Women.
The Nordic Council of Ministers is also organising a debate on Wednesday, with special guest UN Women’s head Michelle Bachelet, to highlight “Equality between Women and Men – The Nordic Way”. On Thursday March 1st Director-General Hole presents Norway’s statement in the panel discussion on “Financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women”.
On Friday March 2nd Director-General Hole presents Norway on an expert panel discussion “Rural Women – an economic potential”. The debate is organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
Also worth noting is the three-day screening of the documentary film series Women War and Peace. The series was created by Abigail Disney, Pamela Hogan, and Gini Reticker. The production and this screening is sponsored in part by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The films will be screened in the Dag Hammarskjold Auditorium at the UN Headquarters. Ms. Fiskaa will attend the first screening on Wednesday February 29th at 3pm. More info re screenings here.
