Dr. Sai, known for his Chairmanship of the last two UN conferences on population and development vividly described the return of investment when focusing on women and girls. – Until the day I`m too old to speak or answer for my sins I will keep pushing this matter, he said while receiving standing ovations by the audience.
Amongst the speakers at the event was Women Deliver Young Leader Nargis Shirazi. Having met girls not even turned 10 years working as prostitutes, she shared her views on young girls as an untapped resource. -When girls are educated, they are more likely to get married later, use contraception, and have healthier children, said Shirazi.
Political Advisor Ingrid Skjøtskift also focused on the interconnection between education and sexual and reproductive health rights - Education is the fundament for women and girls participation in decision making in the society, said Skjøtskift.
Research shows clearly that investment in girls and women pays off. Over the last 20 years, there has been tremendous improvement in these areas, but there is still a long way to go.
Women Deliver is a global advocacy organization that works on improving the health and well-being of girls and women. Their overarching message is that it pays off to invest in girls and women.
