The Norwegian Minister og Children and Equality emphasised the economic advantages when she spoke at the seminare Gender Equality as Competitive advantage - Norwegian and American experiences in buissness, society and policy.

"Faced with the financial crisis and the food crisis, we need a strong UN and a strong UNDP, that will help us  mitigate the negative effects on those who are without a voice. UNDP’s mandate puts it at the forefront of these our joint efforts to act as an advocate and protector of the poor", said Ambassador Morten Wetland at the UNDP board meeting monday. 

”Thank you Chair, I like to start by expressing my strong support to the proposed ICP governance structure and the work program for 2009. The World Bank paper gives in my opinion a good picture of the challenges ahead and the initiatives needed to improve further the overall functioning of the ICP.

"Gender equality is a basic human right. It is not only a goal in itself. Gender equality is a means to achieving equitable growth", said First Secretary Paal Klouman Bekken from the Norwegian mission to the UN on behalf of  Finland , Iceland , Sweden , Denmark , Canada , the Netherlands , the Republic of Korea and Norway .

Norway underlined the importance of addressing the particular needs of child soldiers that have been part of the armed conflict in the statement made by Ambassador Mona Juul at the Biannual Review of the PBC strategy for Burundi Wednesday 4 February 2009.
