Speaking on transboundary oil and gas reserves, Director General Rolf Einar Fife expressed the Nordic countries' reservations with regard to further codification work by the International Law Commission on this topic. The statement was made in Sixth committee 27 October. Read more

Norway  emphasised the importence of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) in a statment in Second committee. "The process of negotiating the UNCAC lead developed and developing countries alike to set a sharp focus on combating corruption", said Firsth Secretary Lene Richter Strand.  Read more

Norway expressed a deep concerned about the increasing restrictions imposed by states on the freedom of association, opinion and expression, including freedom in the statement made by Ambassador Mona Juul on Human rights questions in Third Committee. Read more

Norway highlighted the need to combat deforestation in a statement in Second Committee: "In our view, emissions from deforestation and forest degradation should be included in the new global agreement under the UN Convention on Climate Change that we hope will be concluded in Copenhagen in 2009", said First Secretary Daniel Hirsch.
