Illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing is one of the major threats to sustainable fisheries management. The General Assembly in 2005 established the  Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF). The purpose of the fund is to avoid delays in the international efforts in case of humanitarian disasters. Norway participated actively in the establishment of the fund, which will be administered by USG Mr. Jan Egeland, OCHA.

This fall it will be five years since world leaders adopted the Millennium Declaration at the United Nations. The declaration provides guidance for our common work with global challenges such as poverty, environment, security, disarmament and human rights. The UN summit from 14 to 16 September will take stock of what has been achieved thus far and make plans for the continued work.
