Committee Meetings

Given by  Knut Langeland, Ambassador for Disarmament, at a meeting in the Preparatory Committee for the 2010 Review Conference of Parties to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, 6 May 2009

"We support the ongoing work to strengthen the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights," Ambassador Johan L. Løvald said in his statement to the Third Committee.

"We commend the Agency and its staff for their untiring efforts to assist Palestinian refugees under difficult and often dangerous circumstances," First Secretary Per Ø. Landemoen said in his statement about United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

Adviser Øyvind Hernes from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the following statement in the Sixth Committee:

"In conclusion I consider this year’s session of the First Committee to have been a reasonable succesful one," Ambassadør Mona Juul and Chair of the First Committee said in her closing statement.

"Norway is pleased that it is widely accepted that we must deal with environmental challenges if we are to reduce poverty and solve the development problems the world is facing," First Secretary Lars S. Alsaker said in the following statement in The Second Committee:

Director General, Rolf Einar Fife, from the  Ministry of Foreign Affairs made this statement in the Sixth Committee on behalf of the Nordic countries:

"There have been improvements in the working methods of the First Committee.  Yet, we believe that more could be done to further enhance the relevance of our Committee," Minister Counsellor Hilde Janne Skorpen said in her statement in the First Committee. 

"We, the member states, must ensure that the UN successfully manages this increased activity, both to protect the well-being of the people in the countries concerned, and to uphold the credibility of the UN," Ambassador Mona Juul stated in  the Fourth Committee.
