Norway supports One UN

11/9/2012 // Ambassador Geir O. Pedersen and Deputy Assistant Secretary General Fadzai Gwaradzimba, UNDP, signed an agreement to implement the One UN model at country level. This agreement will strengthen the professionalization of the UN.

In all, Norway supports One UN at country level with NOK 50 million (approx. USD 9 million).

Norway will support the activities of the UN Coordination Office through the UN Country Coordination Fund for the rapid and effective implementation of the One UN Model. The new approach has brought together partner countries, donors and UN country teams with fresh energy, momentum and a greater sense of common purpose.

A recent evaluation has shown that improved coordination and coherence of UN development activities at country level through the Delivering as One approach has increased national ownership and leadership, and delivered better results on strategic, crosscutting issues such as human rights, gender equality and HIV/AIDS, as well as in areas such as economic development and the environment.

The agreement enters into force on November 8th 2012, and remains until all obligations related to contributions in 2012 and 2013 have been fulfilled.
