Candidate for UN Committee on the Rights of the Child

11/11/2010 // The Government of Norway nominates Professor Kirsten Sandberg, Supreme Court Justice, as a candidate for the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child for the period 2011-2015. Professor Sandberg is currently serving as Supreme Court Justice.

Professor Sandberg is a Professor of Law at the University of Oslo. She has a distinguished 25-year record as a lawyer, senior researcher and international expert in the field of children's rights.

She has extensive international legal and academic experience from China, Costa Rica, Italy (European University Institute), the United States and Zimbabwe.

Professor Sandberg has taken a great interest in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) since its adoption in 1989. She follows the activities of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, making use of its general comments and concluding observations in her daily work.

The elections will take place during the 13th meeting of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, on 21st December 2010, in New York.
