Norway supports resolution on the Goldstone report
Last updated: 3/1/2010 //
The General Assembly adopted Friday 26 February a new follow-up resolution on the Goldstone report with broad support. 98 countries voted in favor, 31 abstained and 7 voted against. Norway voted in favor of the resolution which is a modified version of the GA 64/10 resolution adopted on 5 November 2009.
International humanitarian law and the protection of civilians in armed conflict are key issues of human dignity and of utmost importance to Norway. Norway believes the main focus of the new resolution is both relevant and constructive.
We particularly appreciate the focus on process as well as efforts by the main sponsor to address key concerns of many UN members, including Norway, and thereby obtaining broader support. Norway supports the main message of the resolution; that the investigations by the parties should be independent and credible and comply with international standards.
