Review Conference for the UN Fish Stocks Agreement
The Review Conference for the UN Fish Stocks Agreement was held at the UN in New York on May 24-28. The meeting was a continuation of the conference from 2006, and the main objective was to evaluate the implementation of the Agreement and to look for possible ways to strengthen the implementation and have more States become parties to the Agreement.
Important issues for Norway were i.a. discards and flag state responsibility. There was also a lot of focus on the Port State Agreement which was negotiated and completed in the FAO last fall. Norway has been a driving force in the process, and is very pleased with the Agreement.
Norway is content with the result and the recommendations agreed upon at the Review Conference.
