The Prime Minister of Norway, Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, co-chaired the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon’s High-level Advisory Group on Climate Change Financing 12-13 July 2010, alongside the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Mr. Meles Zenawi.
The Advisory Group is expected to work on several proposals on how to reach the long term financing targets from the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit in December 2009, and come up with recommendations on how to raise $100bn per year for climate financing in developing countries by 2020. Both public and private sources of funding will be considered.
Bharrat Jagdeo, President of Guyana, and ministers from several countries are members of the group. Political, economic and business experts, including Lawrence Summers, George Soros and Nicholas Stern, are also part of the High-level Advisory Group on Climate Change Financing.
The group is expected to deliver a major report with their final recommendations ahead of the next Climate Change Summit which will take place in Mexico December 2010.
