-Financing is vital

Last updated: 3/20/2014 // The work on the next generation of financing for development is starting now, led by Norway and Guyana.

In December 2013, the General Assembly decided in its resolution 68/204 to convene a third international conference on financing for development.

 – Finance is vital for the achievement of the ambitious goals that will be set, said Foreign Minister Børge Brende in a press release, and emphasized how Norway has relevant experience within the field and has achieved good results in similar processes.

Today starts the preparations for the third international conference on financing for development, where Norway, on behalf of Permanent Representative Mr Geir O. Pedersen plays a key-role. This is the first meeting of informal consultations with Member States on the way to the international conference, which will take place in 2015/2016.

Together with Mr George Wilfred Tabot, Permanent Representative of Guyana, Mr Pedersen was appointed co-facilitator for the intergovernmental consultations on January 31 by President of the General Assembly, Mr John Ashe.
