The Global Network of Women Peacebuilders - International Civil society Action (GNWP-ICAN) in partnership with the Permanent Mission of Norway and UN Women will organize a panel discussion in supporting women, peace and security globally.

This event has been moved from the UN to Global Network for Women Peacebuilders due to the impact of the storm Sandy in New York.

The panel discussion will convene representatives of civil society, local leaders (e.g., tribal leaders, paramount chiefs, local peace committees) and governments from Colombia, Nepal, the Philippines and Sierra Leone who are involved in the localization of the United Nations Security Council resolution 1325 and 1820 to share their experiences, promising practices and lessons learned in implementing National action plans and peacebuilding strategies.

Noting the theme of the 12th Anniversary of United Nations Security Council resolution 1325 - The Role of CSOs in Prevention and Resolution of Armed Conflict and Peacebuilding, women CSOs in the panel discussion will highlight their contribution to the localization of the program. The outcomes and recommendations from the panel discussion will feed into the ongoing work of the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP) and will also serve as inputs to other efforts to localize and implement national action plan. GNWP believes that the panel discussion will significantly contribute to better implementation of United Nations Security Council resolution 1325, 1820 and the supporting Women Peace and Security resolutions globally.
