Curriculum Vitae of Ambassador Mr. Johan Ludvik Løvald
Ambassador Løvald was appointed Permanent Representative of Norway to the United Nations in 2003.
Before this appointment he served as Deputy Secretary General in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior to that Ambassador Løvald was Norway´s ambassador to Canada from 1996 to 2000, and has also served as Political Director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He has furthermore served at Norway´s delegation to NATO and at the Norwegian Embassy in Beijing. Ambassador Løvald has served at the Permanent Mission of Norway to the United Nations before, from 1977 to 1980. During these years, Norway was a member of the Security Council (1979-1980).
Ambassador Løvald is a graduate of Northwestern University, where he earned a Ph. D. in Political Science.
He was born May 14, 1943 and is married to Jennifer A. Ehly. They have three children.
